MRS.
MARGARET BUGDEN.
Quite a
gloom was cast over the Gundurimba district, when it became known that Mrs.
John Bugden, senr, had died suddenly on Saturday morning, October
16th, as the result; of a driving accident. This occurred the previous
Wednesday night, when Mr. and Mrs. Bugden were driving from
Tatham to their home at Gundurimba.
Darkness set
in before they reached their destination, and having no lights they collided
with another sulky, which was also without lamps, and in which were seated Mr.
and Mrs. Richard MacMahon and I child, who were 'lifelong friends of the Bugden family.
At the time
of the collision, it was thought that no one was hurt, and Mrs. Bugden went about her house and
garden apparently quite well.
On Friday night she was taken seriously ill 'passed
away on Saturday morning.
The deceased lady, who was considerably over 70
years old, came to the Richmond about 40 years ago, from the Willams' River
with her husband and his brothers.
They traveled overland with a dray and a
team of bullocks, and were six months on the road.
She leaves a very large
circle of relatives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom her-
death came as a great shock. — R.I.P.

OBITUARY;
MR. JOHN
BUGDEN.
Mr. John
Bugden, who has been identified with the progress of the Richmond, for the Past
12 years, died yesterday at Gundurimba.
The immediate cause of death was heart
disease, but deceased had been in failing health for the past 18 months, his Decline
being due to an accident which he and his wife met, and which indirectly caused
the death of Mrs. Bugden.
The late Mr.
Bugden was a native of the State, being born at Brookfleld, on the Williams
River, in 1836.
He married
Miss Margaret Smith at Brookfleld, and in 1868 he came to the Richmond River, -
settling at Gundurimba, where he resided up to the time of his death.
On his
arrival on the river, he took up the work of timber hauling, and drove bullocks
during the day and split timber and shingles at night to erect a dwelling for
himself and wife. As the years went on he acquired a great deal of property,
and was for a time engaged in cane-growing.
When the
sugar industry declined, he like many other pioneers, devoted his attention to dairying.
About ten years ago he gave up active-work. The Late Mr
Bugden was of most industrious habits, and was a firm friend and kind neighbour, and no man on the Richmond was more highly respected and esteemed.
As stated, Mrs. Bugden predeceased her husband by about 18 months. Deceased’s

Mrs. Thomas Flaherty, Miss Margaret Jane Bugden Mrs. John Gorley, and
